The short version
ABDM is India’s programme to connect health records digitally. ABHA is the health ID a patient uses inside it. For a hospital or clinic, being “ABDM-ready” means your software can save a patient’s ABHA details and share health records in the government’s format, with the patient’s consent.
What the words mean
- ABDMAyushman Bharat Digital Mission
- The national programme, run by the National Health Authority, that links patients, doctors and hospitals digitally.
- ABHAAyushman Bharat Health Account
- A 14-digit health ID for each person, plus an easy-to-remember ABHA address.
- HFRHealth Facility Registry
- The registry where your hospital, clinic or lab is listed.
- HPRHealthcare Professionals Registry
- The registry where your doctors and other professionals are listed.
Why it matters for your hospital
Patients increasingly arrive with an ABHA number. When your software can link it, their records can move with them, with their consent, so doctors see past history instead of starting from zero. It also prepares your hospital for government schemes and insurers that expect digital records.
What you need to do
- 1Register your facility on the Health Facility Registry (HFR).
- 2Make sure your doctors are registered on the Healthcare Professionals Registry (HPR).
- 3Use hospital software that can save ABHA details and share records in the ABDM format.
How CareOS helps
CareOS saves the patient’s ABHA number and address at registration, records your facility (HFR) and doctor (HPR) IDs, and can share health records in the ABDM format. Patient records stay on a server inside your hospital.
